SEOCHANG HANOK CULTURE CENTER

WELCOME TO
SEOCHANG HANOK CULTURE CENTER
Seochang Fork Village is located in sehadong in Gwangju
behind the town baekmasan, front of the village there is a wide
field and geukrakgang.
Running the Airport Street that is between Gwangju and Songjeong-ri, we can see a beautiful pavilion when we go into Seha-dong on the left. It's the Mangwi pavilion. It has the beautiful scenery of a pine tree more than both arms´ span around, cedar trees, maple trees, sea pine trees and big cherry trees.
Passing the pavilion to Daechon-dong for 10 minutes, there is Seochang Hanok Culture Center. Just like a picture over the low fence, tile-roofed houses opened before our... eyes in a line. This is a Korean traditional-style house in the city.
Entering the gate, there is a tea house called ‘Jungnojisil(a study room warm with the fragrance of tea)’. Looking out through the opened door to the back yard, a jar stand makes a homesick.
At the backyard, there are a mortar, a wooden pestle, a shovel, a gabion, a basket for carrying dirt and an A- carrier harmoniously.
At the exhibition hall of ethnic supplies beside the gate has been gathered separately the valuable life trifling articles that were finger-marked from old people such as an inkstone, an ink-stick, a fur-lined hood, wooden shoes and a gayageum (a traditional Korean zither-like string instrument with twelve strings).
They are still more valuable because we can not see them easily today even though we go to the country hometown.
Constituted and preserved as a Folk Culture Village, this town is originally the wooden furniture structure of the Korean traditional-style house. The shape of the Korean traditional-style house is long and open ㄱ shape centering on the garden.
A bamboo fence intertwined with bamboos and Korean lespedezas and an alley getting joined on well ordered stone walls show the Korean traditional country.
The Korean tradition is the Korean people’s mode of life that has permeated every portion of our contemporary life. The role of SHCC consists in renewing the value of our traditional culture and preserving it so that it may shine throughout the world.
Come and join in witnessing in the traditional culture cherished by SHCC the value that it continues to create in experiencing past and present and opening up future.
